What’s the star of the day?

Well, let’s ask AI.

🌠🌠Prepare for a cosmic adventure like no other! — Artificial intelligence (AI) has become astronomers' trusty sidekick, propelling us into a new era of discovery and unraveling the universe's deepest secrets. With AI algorithms, scientists are soaring to unimaginable heights, making mind-boggling breakthroughs at warp speed!

Let's start with galaxies. Thanks to AI's pattern-spotting prowess, astronomers can now classify these colossal celestial wonders with a jaw-dropping accuracy of 98%. It's like finding a needle in a cosmic haystack! But that's just the beginning. In the quest for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), AI is our ally. By sifting through mountains of data faster than a shooting star, AI helps us detect potential signals from distant civilizations while significantly reducing false alarms. And the iconic image of a black hole? AI gave it a breathtaking upgrade, revealing the true cosmic heavyweight in all its dark and massive glory.

From unraveling the secrets of galaxies to hunting for alien signals and peering into the depths of black holes, AI has become the astronomer's secret weapon. It's like having a celestial companion guiding us through the cosmos, helping us unlock the universe's mysteries faster than ever before. So, hold onto your space helmets, fellow explorers, as AI takes us on a cosmic journey beyond our wildest dreams!

😶‍🌫️China Dominates Global AI Network, Autocratic Governments its Biggest Users — China dominates the global AI network, with extensive exports of AI technology surpassing its contributions in other tech sectors, according to Harvard Economics Professor David Yang.

Autocratic governments show a particular interest in AI, with a higher proportion of buyers from weak democracies and autocracies. China's deep involvement in international AI research and development, including collaborations, hosting AI labs, and policy-driven investments, has raised concerns about ethical use and illicit knowledge transfers.

The implications of China's AI dominance and its autocratic connections have prompted a reassessment of the global landscape in terms of economic competitiveness and national security.

ChatGPT Vs Fund managers — ChatGPT outshines UK fund managers in-stock selection, delivering impressive returns. While the S&P 500 and Stoxx Europe 600 saw modest gains, ChatGPT-powered portfolios soared by a whopping 10% over an eight-week period. Traditional investment funds, overseen by fund managers, paled in comparison.

Using popular UK funds as a benchmark, analysts at Finder asked ChatGPT to pick stocks based on criteria like low debt and growth history. It selected industry giants like Microsoft, Netflix, and Walmart. While AI has long aided major funds, ChatGPT now empowers retail investors, attracting interest from 8% of UK adults surveyed.

However, 35% preferred to trust their own financial instincts over the chatbot's advice. Will you join the AI investing revolution or rely on your financial intuition? The choice is yours!

What’s going on in India?

🤑🤑Two startups working on climate change with AI — APAC Sustainability Seed Fund has chosen Gujarat Mahila Housing Sewa Trust and Villgro Innovation Foundation, both based in India, to receive funding for their innovative technology projects. These initiatives, utilizing AI and ML, aim to combat the challenges of water scarcity and excessive flooding in the country.

Bharati Bhonsale, Program Manager, Gujarat MHT, said, “MHT aims to develop an AI-enabled model for flood resilience of smaller cities in India that centers on low-income women’s needs. This will serve as an archetype for over 310 fast-urbanizing small towns in India. It will support India’s commitment to SDG targets on sustainable cities and communities, reducing the disaster economic loss in relation to global GDP by 2030”.

Balancing AI and Judicial Discretion: Chief Justice of India's Perspective — The Chief Justice of India (CJI) emphasized that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be helpful, judges' discretion remains essential, particularly in areas like sentencing policy. The CJI stated that they do not wish to surrender their discretion, which is exercised judiciously in terms of sentencing policy. Additionally, the CJI expressed concerns about the practicality of expecting judges to analyze extensive documents of 10,000 or 15,000 pages, especially in cases with statutory appeals.

What these guys are telling about AI?

  1. Goldman Sachs, in a report, highlights that AI could replace around 300 million full-time jobs, and generative AI, which creates content indistinguishable from human work, represents a significant advancement in this regard.

  2. Sridhar Vembu, CEO and co-founder of Zoho expresses concern about the threat AI poses to programming jobs. He predicts that conversational AI platforms like ChatGPT and others will impact the jobs of many programmers.

  3. Carl Benedikt Frey, future-of-work director at the Oxford Martin School, Oxford University, emphasizes the uncertainty surrounding the extent of job displacement caused by generative AI. He suggests that ChatGPT and similar technologies enable individuals with average writing skills to produce essays and articles, potentially leading to increased competition among journalists and potentially lower wages.
